Last year, the California Supreme Court overturned the popular vote and allowed gay civil unions to take place in the state.
Now they voted 6-1 to uphold Proposition 8. The California populace voted back in November for Proposition 8, 52%-48% to overturn gay marriage, upholding only the 18,000 civil unions that had been conducted in the few months since the Supreme Court's decision.
